Empty Nest? New Purpose!

As women, we often dedicate a significant portion of our lives to raising and caring for our children. As our children grow up and move out, we may feel lost and uncertain about what comes next. This can lead to a phenomenon known as "empty nest syndrome," which can leave us feeling alone, purposeless, and even depressed. Fear not!..there are many things you can do to help combat this syndrome and find your new purpose in life. I know that being a mother is a blessing, but it is important to honor all the earnings of your soul. If you find yourself despondent and directionless, here are some things you can do to find some clarity:

  1. Reconnect with old passions

Now that you have more free time, it's a great opportunity to revisit hobbies and interests that may have fallen by the wayside during your busy parenting years. Did you used to love painting? Or maybe you were a keen gardener? Perhaps you enjoyed playing music or writing? Whatever it may be, now is the time to rekindle those passions and find joy in them once again.

2. Discover new hobbies and interests

If you're not sure where to start, why not try something new? Take up a new hobby or try an activity you've always been curious about. Join a local group or club to meet like-minded people and expand your social circle. This could be anything from joining a dance class, trying your hand at pottery, or even taking up a new sport. The possibilities are endless! Go of they joy. Do what turns you on and makes you feel good. Allow this to be your mantra!

3. Volunteer your time

My guru wants told me that whenever hope is lost to turn to service. Another great way to find purpose and fulfillment is by volunteering your time to a cause that you care about. There are countless organizations and charities that are always in need of volunteers, from animal shelters and soup kitchens to community centers and hospitals. Volunteering not only helps you give back to your community but can also provide a sense of purpose and meaning in your life.

4. Travel and explore

Traveling and exploring new places is a fantastic way to broaden your horizons, learn new things, and experience different cultures. Whether it's a weekend road trip, a backpacking adventure, or a luxurious cruise, there are many ways to travel and see the world. This is a great opportunity to take some time for yourself and discover what makes you happy and fulfilled. There is no better way than to fill your soul than to immerse yourself in a new culture. Art, food, history and travel experiences have the power to re-inspire and renew.

5. Start a new career or business

For some women, the empty nest is a chance to pursue a new career or start a business that they've always dreamed of. This could be anything from starting a small business out of your home to going back to school and pursuing a degree in a new field. Whatever it may be, now is the time to take a leap of faith and follow your dreams. This one is often the hardest to wrap your head around, especially if you have bo idea what you want to do. If this is the case, focus on soul searching.

6. Explore health and wellness

Now that you have more time to focus on yourself, it's important to prioritize your health and wellness. This could include things like exercising regularly, eating a healthy and balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and practicing self-care. Taking care of yourself not only helps you feel better physically but can also improve your mental health and overall sense of well-being. I have seen many women take up yoga, learn reiki, become life-coaches and focus on awakening their spirit.

7. Connect with other women in the same situation: Find your tribe!

Finally, it's important to remember that you're not alone in this experience. There are many other women who are going through the same thing and would love to connect with you. Join a support group or attend events for women in the same age group to meet others who are in a similar situation. This can provide a sense of community and belonging that can be incredibly helpful in combating the feelings of loneliness and isolation that can come with the empty nest.

So...while the empty nest may feel overwhelming and uncertain, it's also a chance to rediscover yourself and find your new purpose in life. By reconnecting with old passions, discovering new hobbies, volunteering your time, traveling and exploring, starting a new career or business, focusing on health and wellness, and connecting with other women in the same situation, you can find a sense of fulfillment and joy in this new phase of life. Remember to be patient and gentle with yourself as you navigate this transition. It's okay to feel unsure or even a little lost at first, but with time and effort, you will find your way.

It's important to also keep in mind that this doesn't have to be a solo journey. Reach out to loved ones and seek their support and encouragement. And remember to celebrate your achievements, no matter how small they may seem. Each step forward is a step closer to finding your new purpose and living a fulfilling life in the second half of your journey.

In the end, it's never too late to discover new passions, explore new opportunities, and find a new direction. Embrace this chapter in your life and make the most of it. You deserve to live a life that brings you happiness, fulfillment, and joy no matter what stage of life you're in. You dedicated yourself to raising your children, now it is time to put yourself first...get out there and taste life!
